2020 ULTIMATE SEO PBN GUIDE

SEO PBN

Whats a PBN?

Private Blog Networks or PBNs have a vilified reputation of being “black hat SEO” but this is a poor way of looking at an SEO tool still used by many just by other names.

Cloud Computing: Digital Ocean vs Google Cloud vs AWS

This post originally only focused on cost and user experience but after a real world case study and experiment I have some performance data and it is actually surprising. Teaser here … in a head to head test between AWS and Digital Ocean one of these  two out performed the other in
  1. rate of requests handled
  2. number of requests processed
  3. time it took to process each request.
  4. The same winner of those won 10 / 10 speed tests and the results were not close.
The results of these tests convinced a previously skeptical client’s IT team into switching cloud providers.Scroll down to the section “VPS Performance” to see more about that specific use case scenario.  Ultimate SEO has accounts on all but Azure and has powered its servers from AWS, Google Cloud and Digital Ocean at some point.  We’ve consolidated to one provider and its the same one who performs best in these tests.Want to see a spoiler (the answer)?  Here is a summary sentence of our tests, or read on and learn why and how they win. Testing Sites Used Spoiler Testing Sites Used Server Load Testing: Loadimpact.comPage Speed Testing: GTMetrix.com Spoiler SummaryThe AWS server costs twice as much and delivers one tenth of the capacity and is the slowest page load in all 10 page speed tests. The AWS server is unable to complete the full server load testing. In every instance Digital Ocean out performed AWS. Comparing Digital Ocean Droplets and AWS EC2 VPS How Is This SEO? This may seem off topic but its on topic, technical SEO is imperative … you’re not going to rank number one on Google using Shopify or Wix. It just isn’t going to happen. Those platforms are not serious enough to deliver the configurability one needs to out perform a competitor. It’s also apparently difficult to get solid advice on SEO Hosting from “experts” Best Blog Hosting for SEO is junk … reciting features doesn’t make a hosting plan the best…one quote notes that WordPress is already installed with InMotionHosting.com … so what! Our web servers are preconfigured to install WordPress in every new account as well…it only saves maybe 5 minutes per user but for a web host that time adds up very quickly. So thats not a benefit for the client as much as it is for the host. You aren’t a web host so it’s not that big of a deal. I’d like to hear about benchmarking tests they may have run to decide who is the best. And we do … but thats later. I only mention these to point out typically articles covering which ibetter focus on the irrelevant because the author lacks a technical SEO understanding. Well, this isn’t one of those articles. Features Aren’t Technical Specs Unlimited bandwidth…sounds great but what are the limits? There are limits, the infrastructure that a site sits on has limitations. If someone uses a CAT5 cable instead of a CAT6 everything will be slower and you’ll find a speed limit there. Bottlenecks are designed into …

PBN, GuestPost or Syndication for Backlink Building

Backlink BuildingWe can spend all day optimizing our pages for keywords that we researched for days and never rank content on Google Search.  Its just the cold hard fact that in SEO onpage optimization is the easiest thing and it used to work in the 1990s … heck back then you could keyword stuff and just repeat the same phrase enough in the background and you’d get some traction.  Yes, SEO is dead … if thats the SEO you are using.Backlinks moved in and added some credence to the claims that our content should rank for this or that keyword.  It made sense, each site that links to you with the anchor text including your keyword was that site basically vouching for your content.  If thats all you think backlinks are then … Yes, SEO is dead … simply having a ton of links to your site isn’t a sure fire way to demonstrate that your content is rank worthy anymore.Backlinks created a storm of opportunity in SEO for gaming the system and stacking the deck.  I love telling people about the Google Bomb Miserable Failure and how it defined George Bush in 2004.  Or the story of the downfall of JCPenny who mysteriously ranked number one for all manner of their products until Google took manual action and basically they have never recovered.  Those bring me to these games we developed in an effort to fool Google into making us number one in SERPs.Link Building SchemesEverything I’m going to mention below in this discussions is a link building scheme.  Just like buying multiple domains and having them all for one business, some call it a multi-domain strategy, all of these are understood to be below the belt with Google penalties in the wait.  But thats not exactly true, I strongly think theres a time and place for each of these tools today and they do all still work, it’s how you use them and why.Anything done to increase backlinks is a link building scheme, thats basically the definition of it.  Which is why I roll my eyes when a client is interviewing me for backlink building and says “white hat only” … that means content improvement only.  Otherwise its all a scheme for building backlinks.PBN Private Blog Networks in 2019Backlinks are not dead.  You just cant have links pointing to you from irrelevant sites that have no purpose or traffic anymore.  Thats actually good and its making searches useful again. But what you may call a PBN may be a workshop for testing, what if I as a high school english teacher assigned my 150 students to create blogs and made their homework to discuss the assigned books I’ve given them for the year?  They’ll all point to the same links likely.  Is that a Private Blog Network?  If you feel it is then are we saying that the students work, their content, is not going to be of value to someone else searching for that same book?In the easiest …

Sex, Speed And The SEO Migration of Romantic Depot to WordPress

Romantic Depot operates six, soon to be seven adult stores offering sex toys and lingerie, in the New York City area.  Their flagship stores are in Manhattan and the Bronx.  They’ve been around for sometime and over the years their website aged along with other businesses seeking to help drive local foot traffic. They’ve been around for some time and over the years their website aged along with other businesses sites. The goal of their site was to help drive local foot traffic, but a growing mobile population made their desktop site seem antiquated. With the move to mobile devices in full demonstration the old RomanticDepot.com site was not responsive. It was an HTML static site that required manual editing and didn’t display well on a mobile phone. This lead the owner of the chain to build a new site that was mobile friendly and it lead to my involvement overseeing the process of migrating to this new mobile site without hurting the site’s strong local SEO presence. Keywords: Branded And UnbrandedRomantic Depot does have an impressive keyword positioning presence in the New York City area. Even nationally they are on page 2 of results for “sex shop“.The goal was to ensure a smooth transition to the mobile site while maintaining the SEO that had been built over the years. The site’s keywords did present opportunities for overall improvement. While the store name, a branded keyword, was well associated with the site, the product names were not.So someone searching for the store name found it easily but searching for unbranded keywords were not necessarily productive. The problem this presented was that customers had to already know about the store to find the site.301 RedirectsThe new site was largely a 1 to 1 ratio. The HTML static page manhattan.HTML went now to /manhattan/ on the WordPress site. We placed in any one off redirects, a redirect that took any URL that ended in.HTML and would return it without the HTML and a redirect for the index.HTML homepage to come back with the WordPress homepage at /.Backlinks PreservedBacklinks are the lifeblood of a site’s ranking and it was important to ensure that those would be maintained with relevant content as well.Using SEMRush.com we collected all of the backlinks and their existing targets and ensured those had rules as well. While the site’s backlinks were in the tens of thousands it quickly came down to a few hundred target urls that needed to be accounted for to maintain SEO.Site SpeedMost of the work involved in preparing for the migration was speed performance in nature. The new site when tested on GTMetrix.com was loading in 12.6 seconds with over 400 http requests. We targeted a 3 second load and through Cloudflare.com we were able to utilize a CDN that brought the site closer to users as well as offered other benefits. Cloudflare alone brought the site load time to about 7 seconds. We further limited content that could be on the other pages for those other pages such as Google maps to the location homepages. Instituting lazy …

Managing And Maintaining A PBN

PBNs in 2019 can be just as effective as they once were if properly maintained and staged.  Mimicing an organic site goes a long way in the stability of your PBN. Additional Private Blog Network Resources: SEO PBN – Collection of all our SEO Articles on PBNs PBN Videos For Finding Expired Domains Backlinks and Auto Posting Maintaining A PBN It started off simple enough every week I’d search through expiring domains and pick up a couple cheap .org domains and spent about $7 bucks on two. I’d build my sites out individually and define a purpose to them and make them fully functional sites and move on.  But no one does that who is running just one site.  You return to the site and you improve it, add content, run updates and make sure it hasn’t been hacked. This continued for 2 or 3 months in 2018 and before I knew it I had a hundred domains.  But I didn’t really…because the oldest sites were usually hacked or outdated plugins would shut off removing functionality.  SSL certs may have expired in any regard there are a lot of things out there ready to shut your site down. Basically the older the site the longer it had been left to its own devices, the more likely it was down. Just monitoring whats up and down is a chore.  Sure you can check 1 or 2 sites, but I figured out if I spent 15 per site I’d need 25 hours per hundred sites.  Thats where its important to consider managing and maintaining your PBN early on, and I’ll share some tips here. Autoblogging A PBN You simply cant just make a site with 4 pages and link to yourself.  Your sites built from expired domains only have value because of their backlinks and you need a functioning site that people can find some value to visiting to retain those links.  Site traffic is also an important aspect of a site’s value to you as a backlink source. Maintaining original content on a PBN of over 100 sites is also not practical. Autoblogging or Syndicated content is the next best thing,  You should still have a uniqueness to your site.  That may be that the syndicated content while from other sites is a mix that only your site has available. For instance say your site is about parks.  RSS feeds from all of the major park systems can create a unique blend of content thats greater than the individual sites but still auto generated. RSS content should be clearly labeled as such, with a link back to the original source to avoid plagiarism. When creating an RSS Aggregator site I use the following:
  1. CyberSEO Lite
  2. WPA Auto Links
  3. WP-Cerber
Breaking down the plugins and there settings … CyberSEO The CyberSEO (formerly CyberSyn) plugin settings ensure the content is full text, if possible, link to their source, create thumbnails that are not hot linking, use a date older than the …

Link Building: Redirecting Expired Domains Backlinks

Link building is one of the harder  aspects of SEO and because of this one of the least done. Unfortunately it is many times more powerful than anything you do to your page and content.  No level of optimization of content will trump the power of well placed relevant backlinks. Its so hard few ever do it, and those same people probably say that “SEO is dead.”  It is if all you’re doing is keyword optimization.  75% of what decides the results for a search have nothing to do with what is on the page. Expired Domain Backlinks Every day thousands of domains expire.  The owner just didnt renew it, maybe they forgot it.  Whatever the reason the domain is now available to anyone for registering again.  But what happens to all those pages on the internet that linked to that expired domain?  Nothing usually….each site would have to go through and update their own conten. As a site owner you can probably understand that means the bcklinks of an expired domain usually remain active.  This link building strategy involves you purchsing that domain, then redirecting the existing backlinks to your relevant content.  This video series walks you through three steps.  First, finding the expired domain. Second, reviewing the domain anchor text.  Third, setting those redirects to your site. For more info on assessing a site’s value continue reading after the videos below under the SEO Site Audit header. Video 1 – Finding and sorting through expired domains All links below, open in a new window. You’ll use expireddomains.net in this video.  Other resources are available, but this is the one I use that is free.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbGfPYlvAWE Video 2 – Assessing the expired domains use through anchor text. You’ll use SEMrush.com to review the anchor text of a site’s backlinks.  SEMRush does cost monthly to use but you can ret the free trial.  There are other sites available as well but for the value I prefer SEMRush for backlink auditing..https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=C5MjuuSM648 Video 3 – Setting up 301 Redirects to your site You’ll use a cPanel hosting account provided by many hosting companies.  Ultimate SEO Hosting is our hosting solution offering these capabilities for a few dollars a month. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KyKVriqXsHs&t=1s 301 Redirects Transfer 100% SEO Google’s John Mueller shared how Google passes 100% of “PageRank” with 301 redirects now.  This is an update and change to the policy which used to cause a 10% penalty. They don’t always pass PageRank though.  You can’t redirect backlinks for a bakery to your political campaign site for instance.  Redirects should also be assigned on a 1:1 ratio.  So redirecting all 404 errors to your homepage will not make your homepage any better on Google.  But redirecting a link that used to go to an article about Search Engines to an article about Search Engines should be fine.   You can read SearchEngineJournal.com’s take on this as well.SEO Site AuditUltimateseo.org has a DA 19, that seems pretty low. But keep in mind it used to be a DA 40 before Moz changed it’s scoring. Keep also …

Search Engine Ranking: Website Ranking Keywords Backlinks And All

In several previous articles we’ve covered: Domain Auditing, Page Speed And SEO, Backlinks and even some less than white hat techniques such as Private Blog Networks, Guest Posts and more.  All of these are cogs in the greater overall machine which is Search Engine Optimization or SEO.  To you and any other website owner it is Search Engine Position Ranking.    In this article we’re going to look more holistically at the sum of the parts and how it fits together.Search Engine Marketing Vs Search Engine OptimizationSEO is not Search Engine Marketing, or SEM. It is closely related but very different.  In the end both mean to drive relevant traffic to a site but in different, often at odds means.  SEM includes Pay Per Click or PPC traffic, but can also include more paid traffic channels.I’d argue that a good SEM landing page is an awful SEO landing page.  SEO pages may have a lot of content on them but they are structured in a specific a deliberate manner with everything falling neatly under the page’s topical subject.PPC requires none of that and its page structure is more geared with conversion in mind.  A good SEO is not necessarily a good SEM and vice versa someone with PPC experience is not an SEO.  I only lay it out like that because I’ve worked for sites where a SEM’s decisions hindered the SEO efforts but they served the PPC interests just fine.SERPs or Search Engine Rank Position directly translates into increased traffic on your site.  Both SEM and SEO deliver relevant traffic, because you’re able to place yourself in front of people actively researching a topic related to you.  PPC the costs are upfront and the benefit is immediate but not recyclable. SEM the costs are ongoing, the results are delayed by a few weeks but the work is self renewing.  Once a person finds your site SEO isn’t used up … it can continue to deliver traffic day after day with minimal upkeep.Search Engine RankingRanking number 1 is every webmasters dream for their desired keywords.  I’d love to rank number one for Matthew Leffler but I’m in tough competition from 3 other Matthew Lefflers.  A tennis pro, a lawyer and a sex offender all dance with me in the top positions. Now I dont want to make light of what got someone into the position of being on a sex offender site but I will say that its proven to be some of the best SEO out there. The attorney and the sex offender are beating the SEO and tennis Matthew Lefflers Positions change in SERPs often and reflect the ever changing nature of the web. Website Ranking Website Ranking is the goal of most SEO clients and for good reason.  Web Traffic is directly correlated with where your website is ranked for a keyword.  In studies it has been shown that the top three positions will win about half of all the traffic for a given search term.   Each position earns …

Ultimate SEO And Cloudflare Partners

Ultimate SEO is proud to announce our partnership program with Cloudflare. As a defacto web host serving hundreds of sites this strategic alliance brings the best hosting security solutions together and integrates one of the most popular internet companies with our hosting solutions. In the coming days we’ll be relaunching UltimateSEO.net as our hosting and network site. Below we’ve included some notes from Cloudflare as well as a video. Us in 90 Seconds from Cloudflare on Vimeo. How CloudFlare increases speed and security of your site This is a guest post written and contributed by CloudFlare. CloudFlare makes it easy for any site to be as fast and secure as the Internet giants. CloudFlare, a web performance and security company, is excited to announce our partnership with Ultimate SEO! If you haven’t heard about CloudFlare before, our value proposition is simple: we’ll make any website twice as fast and protect it from a broad range of web threats. We power more than 400 billion monthly page views – more than Amazon, Wikipedia, Twitter, Zynga, AOL, Apple, Bing, eBay, PayPal and Instagram combined – and over 1.2 billion monthly users regularly pass through our network. We’re really glad Ultimate SEO has partnered with CloudFlare. Faster web performance CloudFlare is designed to take a great hosting platform like Ultimate SEO and make it even better. We run data centers [link to http://www.cloudflare.com/network-map] strategically located around the world. When you sign up for CloudFlare, we begin routing your traffic to the nearest data center. As your traffic passes through the data centers, we intelligently determine what parts of your website are static versus dynamic. The static portions are cached on our servers for a short period of time, typically less than 2 hours before we check to see if they’ve been updated. By automatically moving the static parts of your site closer to your visitors, the overall performance of your site improves significantly. CloudFlare’s intelligent caching system also means you save bandwidth, which means saving money, and decreases the load on your servers, which means your web application will run faster and more efficiently than ever. On average, CloudFlare customers see a 60% decrease in bandwidth usage, and a 65% in total requests to their servers. The overall effect is that CloudFlare will typically cut the load time for pages on your site by 50% which means higher engagement and happier visitors. Broad web security Over the course of 2011, CloudFlare identified a 700% increase in the number of distributed denial of service attacks [link to http://blog.cloudflare.com/2011-the-year-of-the-ddos] (DDoS) we track on the Internet (see the chart below). As attacks like these increase, CloudFlare is stepping up to protect sites. CloudFlare’s security protections offer a broad range of protections [link to http://www.cloudflare.com/features-security] against attacks such as DDoS, hacking or spam submitted to a blog or comment form. What is powerful about our approach is that the system gets smarter the more sites that are part of the CloudFlare community. We analyze the traffic patterns of hundreds of …

AWS Vs. Digital Ocean: Costs, Performance, Features For Cloud Computing | Clear Winner

Why I Made The Switch To Digital Ocean And You Should Too After a year of ballooning costs I stumbled across Digital Ocean an figured I’d try their $5 VPS server and compare it to my Amazon Web Services experience. Astonishing… Digital Ocean quickly grabbed my attention with the straight forward ease of use. I had a working cPanel server in less than 20 minutes. They make the entry into Cloud Computing easy with a 1 CPU 1 GB Ram server that has 25GB SSD and 1000GB Transfer …. also included was 2 external IP Addresses and the Ability to create a firewall protecting my servers. That cost $5 a month. Jaw dropping I exclaim the AWS price is $5 just for the two IP addresses! I should have made an apples to apples comparison but at that moment I was off. My AWS Configuration And Cost:
  • 2 t2.medium 2 CPUs with 4 GB Ram Each having 100GB SSD
  • 1 t3.medium 2 CPU with 4GB Ram with 100GB SSD
  • 6 external IP addresses for these
  • I used 170GB of data transfer.
Grand Total For April: $167.83 In April here’s the bill from AWS. I’d note that my three servers take advantage of Reserved Instance pricing…I get a discount because I signed a contract to rent the servers for at least a year.   So fr in 2019 I’ve spent $500 with AWS. I hate their billing detail… Now Digital Ocean … heres my configuration
  • 4CPU 8GB Ram 80GB SSD + 100GB SSD Volume
  • 2CPu 4GB Ram 80GB SSD
  • 2CPu 4GB Ram 80GB SSD
  • 2CPU 4GB Ram 80GB SSD
  • 2CPu 4GB Ram 80GB SSD
  • 2CPu 4GB Ram 80GB SSD
  • 12 IP Addresses
  • 170GB Transfered
As you can see I added 3 servers and gave one server 2 times the standard configuration I usually use. So what might we expect? I went from 3 servers to 7 roughly. (counting the bigger server just as two servers) $132.77 I more than doubled the resources I consumed at AWS at $167 to pay less at $132. Its easy to see why…compare Apples to Apples   AWS 2 CPU 4GBSSD =$12.96 2 IP Addresses=$2.05 100 GB SSD= $13 Snapshot=$4 Data Transfer=$3.75 Total: $35.76 Digital Ocean 2 CPU 4GBSSD =$20 2 IP Addresses=$0 80 GB SSD= $0 Snapshot=$1 Data Transfer=$0 Total: $21Not only is it cheaper but there are just less nickel and dime aspects.  No use having a server without an address!  Or a hard drive … or data transfering!  So It’s one item. Performance wise its identical, I have no observable difference in performance other than the same number of hosted sites are now housed on twice the resources. Now there are some things to note in AWS’s corner … I could have more than 2 IP Addresses if I wanted … but I just want 2 per server so no issue.  Its just simpler, more transparent and significantly cheaper to use Digital Ocean over AWS.    It’s also worth …

Creating A PBN Network Part 4: The Site Needs A Story

Creating a PBN or Private Blog Network is likely more difficult that just focusing on your content and the value it offers visitors. In this post we’ll examine what you need to have on the site and how it should be structured. In previous posts we’ve discussed: Creating A Private Blog Network: PBNs In 2019 For SEO PBNs 2019 – Domain Detailing – Picking Expired Domains And 301 Redirects Auto Posting Across Social Media Platforms – IFTTT – Buffer.com Domain Name Register – PBNs In Mind – Namesilo.com Every Site Needs A Backstory Because every organic real site has one. If you decide before you create the site what it is and who made it then you’ll be able to create a site that will serve your PBN well. I’ve made site’s as if it were a school assignment in music and communication, or I’ve built a medical conference site that happened years ago but continues to update it’s site with follow up articles. I’ve built news magazine sites that promise to focus on local news that matters. Each site has an intended audience and justifies its existence. Be creative and shake up the site’s purpose, play with the name. One site I had was aidusa.website I built a site seeking international aid for the USA because of the state of politics and our national debt. I noted our poverty levels, healthcare challenges and violence on the streets. It kinda made some sense after you look at it. That site could easily then harbor a backlink for a charity, healthcare site, legal site or a news site. Regularly Updates If you own one site and its this site your building you’re going to update it at least every month right? Its something you’re passionate about and you’ll find the regular updates will attract regular visits from search engines. This doesn’t scale well when we think about 10 sites or 100 sites … 1000 sites. You’ll need to read up on our Auto Blogging ideas in another article that we posted a while back. Link Placement Avoid … just don’t … place a link in the header or the footer or the sidebar of the site to another site. Your main “real” site doesn’t do that I bet. Why would this site? Keep money links to your target site in content. Define your site with anchor text that is relevant to the keywords you are pursuing. Who’s Behind The Site And The Ability To Contact Them I know what your favorite word is … or at least statistically speaking I do. It is your name. Humans love to talk about themselves and they like to take credit for something they’ve done. Websites aren’t much different. So it looks odd when a site gives no information about the person or group behind it. The About Us section is important and just like on your money site or the important site … you need a means to contact the owner. A simple contact …

On Page SEO Just Doesn’t Rank Keywords like Backlinks

I wanna share a graphic I ran across online with you today. Keywords Or Backlinks? Invest your time in backlinks. According to this one if you want to impact your SEO standing all of the On Page Factors combined don’t reach even half the power of the Domains Backlinks and the Page’s Backlinks. I often have clients who comb over their sites day after day tweaking the words on the page with bold or moving them to a header and if they spent 1/4 of that time trying to attract other sites to link to them they’d get 5 times the result. Its one thing to say your the best, its a totally different thing if someone else says your the best. Or if someone says you’re the worst it really doesn’t matter how many times or ways you say you’re the best. It’s logical too…if you meet a person for the first time and they boldly proclaim how great they are to you, but someone else warns you that they’re full of it … what are you going to think? We’ve discussed this a few times in other articles but when looking over the Upwork SEO projects its evident that few people understand this concept. Your page is defined by the link that lead Google to you. Sure working on the headers and img alt tags are useful, but only to support what your backlinks are saying. Anchor text is the real keyword of search engines. This link to the best upwork SEO profile is more important than anything I put on that page …

Is A Site Low Level? DA vs CF vs TF … DR, DS, AS, TS and more!

What to do with a low ranking site? I was asked a seemingly simple question by a client today. Should low level sites he owns be scrapped and used for their backlinks by 301 redirecting the sites. Simplest Answer: I think it’s hard to quantify if a site is low level. Ultimateseo.org has a DA 19, that seems pretty low. But keep in mind it used to be a DA 40 before Moz changed it’s scoring. Keep also in mind that change in scoring showed no reflection in the site’s ranking. I recommend 301 redirecting based on anchor text not necessarily on the score a site earns. Longer Answer: What backlinks should be 301 redirected from another domain? While it is a Domain Authority 19 now it is a CF 34, and a TF 14. It has a DR 45, and a DS 24, TS 22, AS 36 ….. head spinning yet? As a reminder here are what those abbreviations mean … and to whom. SEO Metrics
  • DA is Domain Authority created by Moz
  • CF is Citation Flow created by Majestic
  • TF is Trust Flow created by Majestic
  • DR is Domain Rank created by AHREFS
  • DS is Domain Score created by SEMRush
  • TS is Trust Score by SEMRush
  • AS is Authority Score by SEMRush
DA is Unreliable To Me The DA metric lost a lot of credence in my mind when they redid their formula, it made it more obvious that it’s just a number in a vacuum. What we saw after Moz released DA2.0 was as a DA40 became a DA19 it wasn’t reflective by what Google saw. The day before this site ranked as it did the day after DA2.0. Google doesn’t use DA and what we care about is what does Google think about a site. So Id say if we want to redirect 301 links we can …. and I do. But I do it because the anchor text is what I want, not because a site’s DA is low. Assessing A Site’s SEO Value When we assess if a site is high or low we have to consider all of the SEO metrics we have available and use these numbers together. Keep in mind they are not intended to be apples to apples. For instance Citation Flow is how influential a site appears where Trust Flow and Trust Score are meant to tell us how trustworthy a site is considered. AS is Authority Score which I lump in with CF. I think of DA, DR and DS as comparable metrics. So assessing if this site is low or high I’d say we have the following metrics: Overall scores: DA: 19 DR: 45 DS: 24 Trustworthiness: TF: 14 TS: 22 Authority: AS: 36 CF: 34 It’s also important to look at some of the raw indicators to understand the values we are seeing above. I use Majestic, SEMRush And Moz to answer these questions, and I always expect Majestic to have higher numbers because it crawls more of the web than Moz …

Auto Posting Across Social Media Platforms – IFTTT – Buffer.com

I hate missing out just as much as anyone else. Its why Ultimate SEO has accounts on Twitter, Facebook, LinkedIn, Tumblr, Pinterest, Flickr, Youtube, Blogger, Instagram, SnapChat and more. But the only thing worse than not being on a platform is to not appear active on that platform. If someone’s first impression of you or your company is your activity on a forgotten profile it is more damaging than not having been there to begin with. IFTTT And Buffer Thats where IFTTT has stepped in and been able to save time while helping to get a message out consistently. From WordPress IFTTT automatically shares and posts each update to a slew of other sites and until recently its been the most effective means for auto updating social media. Now that Google+ has ended and with the loss of Gmail applets on IFTTT it may be a good time to look again at social media auto posting techniques. Recently it appears LinkedIn may have discontinued its connection to IFTTT as well, which is a shame and hurts both LinkedIn and IFTTT. In researching IFTTT applets Buffer.com came to light. Its mostly a paid version of what IFTTT did for free but it also includes a free options which allows integration with 3 social media platforms. In the use case of Ultimate SEO that meant connecting to LinkedIn. The other two positions going to Facebook and Twitter as those are the powerhouse social media platforms. Automated Cross Posting In Social Media My ultimate goal is to fully automate this process and I haven’t yet seen that in Buffer.com but further testing may reveal that an action from IFTTT completes this chain. Its not enough to be able to post an individual article from one site to all, we need something that checks all sites and then auto publishes what isnt published on others to those sites. You might think of this daisy chain of social media as if it were a PBN. It’s a network of separate sites but all you. I’ll keep you updated on this case study. At present though IFTTT still appears to be the best auto posting option for social media. It can start from a sites RSS feed or an integrated service like WordPress then post to a central site such as Blogger which has a lot of versatility due to the number of connections available. Connectors Applets Or Recipes Some connections utilized for Ultimate SEO include: (The WordPress to X recipes are available but I’d recommend making these connections through Blogger where possible for consistency)
  • WordPress to Blogger
  • WordPress to Photostream
  • WordPress to Tumblr
  • WordPress to Facebook
  • WordPress to Twitter
  • Blogger to Buffer – this recipe enables the auto posting into LinkedIn

  • Blogger to Bitly
  • Blogger to Diigo
  • Blogger to Instapaper

Link Building: Site Directories

An easy way to build backlinks is through directory submissions. Anything hard though is worth more, so keep in mind directory submissions don’t carry the weight that in content links will. With that said there is still diluted value in link directories, just don’t focus on them. Here are some link directories and they are organized by SEO power. The button below opens a new window with about 100 sites. We also have the following directory sites maintained by Ultimate SEO and these are always free to list with. PBNs 2019 – Domain Detailing – Picking Expired Domains And 301 Redirects

In PBNs 2019 Part 1 we discussed some logistics of organization on a high level concerning Cloudflare, Spreadsheets and above all randomness.  In this the second part of our private blog network series we’ll focus on expired domains and the assessing of their value. Domain Authority Is One Part First, we will look at Domain Authority but before we do lets note Domain Authority in and of itself is worthless.  It IS NOT used by Google.  It is made by a company called Moz and it is their best guest how Google interrupts the content on a site based on a lot of factors but not all the factors and not in the same ratio.  Why do we use it then?  Google doesn’t have to tell us their formula for ranking a site in their results…in fact to do so would likely be a disservice to everyone involved.  So based on observation and conjecture Moz provides us with an imperfect rating called Domain Authority.  It is though in the end a made up number that is flawed.  It was so flawed that DA 2.0 came out in March 2019 where many sites saw their rating plummet.  Search results didn’t change … why would they when they are not connected to DA.  Now thats out of the way… Expired Domains We should start with https://expireddomains.net its a good site that has aggregated the domains being deleted from multiple registrars and it provides some base metrics that we can use to qualify domains for a closer look.  There are millions of deleted domain names and we need someway to filter them down to something you can work with. Why do we care about expired domains?  Your PBN is attempting to mlmic organically earned backlinks.  In the real world backlinks would likely come from sites that have their own backlink profiles and no two organic sites would likely have the same backlink profile.  Buying a new domain name will come with 0 backlinks.  Buying a used one will likely include some backlinks therefore giving your PBN its power.  Think of these like telephone numbers…and you want someone to call you…you wont want to use the old number of someone who didn’t have any friends, but if you get a popular person’s old number then your phone is more likely to ring.  Sure they are after the former owner ( or site in our case ) but if you can answer their questions and keep them happy they may keep calling.  Same with expired domains. Another site that focuses on expired domains is domcop.com.  They are expensive and I’ve never used them because I can do all the work it does pretty swiftly and save the 100 dollars a month.  Sure they have a cheaper plan but you cant do anything with it.  Access to the expired section and archived section isn’t included …. making it relatively worthless.  Back to expireddomains.net its free.  Once we log in we can choose filters to sort down to …

Creating A Private Blog Network: PBNs In 2019 For SEO

First and foremost the most important aspect of your Private Blog Network is randomness.  Consider what pattern or foot print your PBN might have and avoid that commonality. Patterns and commonality to avoid in building a Private Blog Network Good PBNs Are Random, Start With Different Name Registrars First off you need private domain registration, if not private then you’ll need people and addresses from all over.  If you always use Godaddy you’re going to have to try out others to avoid a pattern.  Incidentally if you always use Godaddy you’re getting ripped off as they will charge you for privacy and many others don’t.  Some popular Name Registrars are 1and1.com namesilo.com namecheap.com cosmotown.com each of these can save you a considerable amount over Godaddy considering they offer free private registration and using more than one breaks a pattern. Each time you add a new site to your PBN you need to approach it from the beginning as if you’re playing a character in a story who has never made a website before, when I say that I mean if you know you have a site on Host A and you like that host you’re making decisions based on previous sites and are more likely to create a pattern.  Forget Host A how would you find a host for the first time?  Google popular web hosts and pick a cheap new partner. One thing that’s really beneficial about building PBNs that is more helpful to you in the long run is the forced exploration.  After you’ve built ten sites on ten hosts using ten registrars and ten WordPress themes you’ll be able to write three top ten lists and rank the best of the 720 combinations that were available to you.  It’s a lot of practice and as you’re avoiding patterns and repetition you’ll find yourself stepping out of your norm. Vary Your Web Hosts Speed of a web host is important normally but not necessarily when your building a PBN.  While you want your primary or money site to load in under 3 seconds its perfectly fine if your PBN site loads in 7 seconds and that opens the door to all manner of generic no name web hosts.   Your primary goal with multiple web hosts is to utilize a different IP address. Considering the complexity that can quickly arise when seeking randomness of your sites. The only two big issues with this model … Organization OF PBN Resources What site is down?  Oh….well which domain registrar did I use?  Am I using their nameservers, someone else’s?  Where did I point that to be hosted?  Sure these aren’t that annoying to answer with a 10 site network, but try answering it when you’ve built and scaled up to 200 sites using 7 registrars, 20 name servers, 150 different IPs … it becomes unmanageable as you find yourself searching for your site more than you are building new sites, and why are you having to search?  Maintaining a site is …

Bad Backlinks: 100 Sites You Don’t Want A Backlink From.

Bad Backlinks UltimateSEO.org has backlinks from about a thousand domains.  In a recent review of these I found an odd reoccurring link from multiple domains but all with the same content and titles.  I was introduced with “The Globe” which charges sites to NOT list them or makes money from SEOs paying them to not backlink to them.  At $36 a link they’re likely insane and I bet its bringing in some money.  But before we go all crazy and start paying Ransomlinks (if its not a word I claim it … Ransomlinks are backlinks from bad sites meant to lower your SEO score unless you pay to not be linked too.) In reviewing the situation I ran across a list of the most disavowed sites.  I figured Id share that with you below, but before I do what outcome did I choose for these bad links pointed to my site?
  1. Option 1 Pay: Heck No! Then the terrorists win.
  2. Disavow: No! Don’t use disavow unless Google has placed a manual action against your site.  I’m skeptical anyhow of the tools purpose and Google itself says there is no need to use the tool unless you’ve been penalized and told by them you are being penalized.
  3. Do Nothing: Yes! Don’t do anything. Google likely knows about the Ransomlinks scheme and has already penalized the site by deindexing it.  There are so many random domains its going to be a mess to address so let it be unless you have a seen a negative affect.  In other words…before you saw your leg off wondering if that spot is cancer…stop and find out.
  4. An idea: 301 Redirect Them…seriously…all of these links point to a subdomain that until now hasn’t existed.  Most others who are talking about this site note a similar subdomain targeted.   I could create the targeted subdomain and redirect all links to it from my site back to theirs.  🙂
I’m opting for the third as I dont have any indication that Google cares about these Ransomlinks.  They may actually bring some random traffic of use so redirecting them would take that from my site. And now the most disavowed sites…

Free Auto Blogger / Autoblogger Using RSS Feed Content

A Free Plugin For Auto Blogging CyberSyn (AKA CyberSEO and CyberSEO Lite) doesn’t know I’m writing anything on them and this isn’t a paid endorsement, I use their product on about 100 domains and its worked perfectly for me, its a free full text RSS feed to post plugin available through the WordPress plugin repository. Most RSS Feed to Post programs don’t work or only do half of the needed process for free. CyberSyn does it all. I have a domain that is of little value and I think I got it for 1.99. I turned it into my distribution center. Lets call it example.com. I then create categories for the types of articles I’ll be posting. So let’s say our categories are News, Farming, SEO, Cooking and Finance. By making these categories I now have 5 categories or 5 RSS feeds of my own, in addition to the site’s main one. I also assign tags because RSS feeds can be made to follow a tag.  SO lets say I make green, blue, red and purple as tag words. Tag all the articles that are alike, and post your newest masterpiece. Of my 100 domains I have groups and I’d download CyberSYN and install it, listing the feed it is supposed to post to https://example/tags/blue/feed. I can add that url to whatever blogs I want and then interweave the categories to create another niche delivery system to the same domains. There’s hardly a limit to the number of categories and tags you can use. Once you’ve setup these feeds you can post to News and Blue and that’s who’s going to backlink or pickup your article. CyberSYN allows full text extraction, you can credit your sources, and choose other various options. Test your site to site RSS feed Post from your main distribution site and wait. You’ve already likely at this time set an automated timed cron job for CyberSYN. I generally set this value at 4000 minutes so there are a couple days to cool don but new content is constantly added. Auto Blogging Articles Ultimate SEO Autoblogging Kit RSS Feeds Find relevant topical sources that promote their content in RSS syndicated feeds. • What To Do With Your Political Site After The Election

Its something farthest from your mind, I’m sure.  If you’re working for a political campaign you’re pushing forward and the next 5 weeks are all out war ahead.  What to do with your campaign site after the election?  Heck I suspect some of you are just now getting around to your website, or many feel it hasn’t helped in the past so no need to worry.  You’d be wrong if you fall into either of those mindsets, if you’re the diligent one you’ll find the rewards are like a garden. • SEO: How long does it take to rank #1 on Google?

It Takes About 3 Months To 6 Months To Rank #1 On Google In the world of politics everything seems to be able the last week of an election, after that its over.  In the business world you have to keep going after a certain defined date to remain in business.  Political SEO requires keeping in mind the business world because in Google ranking they are your biggest competitors and the other candidate is likely just as I was talking with a politico kind of friend in the last two days about the need in getting in contact with any
  • What Is Domain Authority Why Should I Care?

Domain Authority is in my opinion the single greatest indicator of a sites ability to compete organically for search traffic.  It is a great question and its simply complex.  Keep in mind Domain Authority or DA as we shall refer to it pretty much here on is the single best number to predict ranking ability and we know that the top 3 positions consume over half of all searches so it can be directly attached to traffic. A few disclaimers: Domain Authority is not a Google creation it is from Moz.com and it is their educated guess at how

First off, lets note that PBNs are not viewed well in traditional SEO and are hunted like witches in Massachusetts in the 1600s.  They must be large to matter, having anywhere between 20 to several thousand sites. They are the equivalent of building dozens of WordPress sites taking hours and hours from other SEO opportunities. They work. What Are Private Blog Networks? • Auto Posting Across Social Media Platforms – IFTTT – Buffer.com

If someone’s first impression of you or your company is your activity on a forgotten profile it is more damaging than not having been there to begin with. • Is A Site Low Level? DA vs CF vs TF … DR, DS, AS, TS and more!

What to do with a low ranking site? I was asked a seemingly simple question by a client today. Should low level sites he owns be scrapped and used for their backlinks by 301 redirecting the sites. Simplest Answer: I think it's hard to quantify if a site is low level. Ultimateseo.org has a DA 19, that seems pretty low. But keep in mind it used to be a DA 40 before Moz changed it's scoring. Keep also in mind that change in scoring showed no reflection in the site's ranking. I recommend 301 redirecting based on anchor text
