Updates That Matter AND Updates That Don’t :SEO Basics

This post was originally made 3/7/2019 but was lost during a restoration from backup while Ultimate SEO was dealing with a DOS attack. Updates That Matter AND Updates That Don’t I’ve heard things come in threes so curious whats next because 2 big updates this week are out.  Now unfortunately the one that matters is unlikely to gain as much attention as the one that doesn’t mean anything.  So lets begin on what folks are focused on…something that means nothing. MOZ Domain Authority 2.0 Moz redid their Domain Authoritycalculations and the implications are HUGE for those who workat Moz.  If you don’t workthere then its not a big deal.  Domain Authorityis like a fake credit score.  Your bank will likely use your FICA score but no one can release your FICA score to you but FICA.  To solve this banks and other organizations created their own scoring systems that attempted ...

Backlinks And Ranking

Backlinks 101 – SEO’s Off-page Often Ignored Power Ranker

Backlinks 101 First off a little disclosure this article over laps the Backlinks category of the FAQ. What Are Backlinks? Backlinks are links from other sites.  Think of them as votes of affirmation.  Only one vote can come from a domain so for SEO purposes it doesn’t matter if there are 100 or 1 link from the same domain one link is the count you gain.  Subdomains are viewed separately...thats why yourblog.tumblr.com isn't a tumblr backlink.  Now those other links may increase traffic to your site but in regards to SEO value its one vote.  Some call this metric "Domain Pop" ... how many different domains link to a site.  It's also gotten more complicated as people would host multiple sites on a shared IP.  How many backlinks come from different IPs is "IP Pop."  It's common to see a little higher domain pop than ip pop but if its a ...

PBNs: Private Blog Network – The Crack Habit Of SEO

First off, lets note that PBNs are not viewed well in traditional SEO and are hunted like witches in Massachusetts in the 1600s. They must be large to matter, having anywhere between 20 to several thousand sites. They are the equivalent of building dozens of WordPress sites taking hours and hours from other SEO opportunities. They work. What Are Private Blog Networks? Private or Personal Blog Networks, PBNs are sites built with the purpose of providing backlinks to another site. This other site is often called "the money site." Google is known to be hostile to these sites and prone to deindexing those associated. It's not as simple though to say dont have one, it may destroy you and your site. It also has a very good chance to increase rankings, keywords and site visibility. It is an search engine optimization (SEO) strategy both loved and hated by many SEO ...

MAJOR GOOGLE SEO CHANGE FOR SOME: Website Traffic CREDITED To Where Google Chooses

Consolidating your website traffic on canonical URLs Wednesday, February 06, 2019 In Search Console, the Performance report currently credits all page metrics to the exact URL that the user is referred to by Google Search. Although this provides very specific data, it makes property management more difficult; for example: if your site has mobile and desktop versions on different properties, you must open multiple properties to see all your Search data for the same piece of content. To help unify your data, Search Console will soon begin assigning search metrics to the (Google-selected) canonical URL, rather than the URL referred to by Google Search. This change has several benefits:
  • It unifies all search metrics for a single piece of content into a single URL: the canonical URL. This shows you the full picture about a specific piece of content in one property.
  • For users with separate mobile or AMP ...

Adwords And Google Data Studio: Wordstream Alternative

I've been managing Google Adwords campaigns for political campaigns mostly but recently I stepped out into managing the Adwords campaigns for an IT consulting company. It's a little bit of a challenge I'm not going to lie. More than just matching the search with the keyword I need to attract only business customer and cut out residential. So as you can image someone Googles "IT Help Desks" and they might be looking for a specific help desk, a personal help desk or a help desk to contract business services too. Wordstream Free Alternative In Ultimate SEO's  struggle to compete in this expensive market I tried Wordstream out for a week and a half of so and thats really not enough time to get much actionable help. I was pulled into a sales demo consultation and sure it seemed like it could offer insights but WOW ... the expense associated with ...

How To Rank Your Site On Google…Forget the Keywords

How To Rank Your Site On Google...Forget the Keywords Well don't totally forget the keywords but I think if you spend more than 5 minutes on keywords you're going to be pretty surprised by some purported data I stumbled across.  As you likely know Google uses about 200 factors in determining your sites ranking.  I personally have place a lot of emphasis on speed and backlinks and while I have thought it was important I must admit I didn't give the social media factor as much attention as I should. The first big thing to not is that 10.3% of ranking is CTR so if you have ever seen your content just jump up on the rankings and then slowly (or quickly) taper off as time goes its likely that people are clicking on you less and less as you slide below the pages.  Its the single biggest impact.  I ...

Bad Backlinks: 100 Sites You Don’t Want A Backlink From.

Bad Backlinks UltimateSEO.org has backlinks from about a thousand domains.  In a recent review of these I found an odd reoccurring link from multiple domains but all with the same content and titles.  I was introduced with "The Globe" which charges sites to NOT list them or makes money from SEOs paying them to not backlink to them.  At $36 a link they're likely insane and I bet its bringing in some money.  But before we go all crazy and start paying Ransomlinks (if its not a word I claim it ... Ransomlinks are backlinks from bad sites meant to lower your SEO score unless you pay to not be linked too.) In reviewing the situation I ran across a list of the most disavowed sites.  I figured Id share that with you below, but before I do what outcome did I choose for these bad links pointed to my ...

Trace Route Network Tool, Only On A Map

Tracert in SEO: Can Help Ya Track Your 301 Redirects Tracert is a command thats elementary to networking and computers.  Trace Route or Tracert does exactly what it sounds like, and its useful cause it tells ya every ip address it passes through between the server and the catcher (not technical terms there).  It explains where speed issues are in a global perspective or in your home. Its usually just text but https://www.monitis.com/traceroute/ made it more fun...and from this map I can see why my fiber connection isnt seemingly very fast tonight, I'm being routed through London, England to do a domestic "hop" (hops are each leg of a journey in a tracert ...

A Free Plugin For Auto Blogging CyberSyn (AKA CyberSEO and CyberSEO Lite) doesn't know I'm writing anything on them and this isn't a paid endorsement, I use their product on about 100 domains and its worked perfectly for me, its a free full text RSS feed to post plugin available through the WordPress plugin repository. Most RSS Feed to Post programs don't work or only do half of the needed process for free. CyberSyn does it all. I have a domain that is of little value and I think I got it for 1.99. I turned it into my distribution center. Lets call it example.com. I then create categories for the types of articles I'll be posting. So let's say our categories are News, Farming, SEO, Cooking and Finance. By making these categories I now have 5 categories or 5 RSS feeds of my own, in addition to the site's ...

Googling Online Reviews And Top 10 Lists Are Wastes Of Time

So an annoyance and a likely by product of SEO is the lack of quality articles and reviews on topics these days.  I expected that it would be annoying to search out a possible new theme for one of my sites but I what I found in the search results was a heap of ... shit.  Like total crap that served as self promoting noise dressed up as useful reviews. I Googled "SEO Agency WordPress themes" The top 10 results all pretty much sucked, they lacked any real effort in delivering what they claim to offer.  Lets look at the top result...and how bad it reviews what it claims to review. 1. 10+ Best SEO Agency WordPress Themes 2018 - aThemes This top result on Google is pointless to visit.  They review the same thing ten times essentially and describe features of WordPress that are available to any theme on ...
